ENS Yaounde: Newly Admitted Students Begin Academic Year

The Higher Teacher Training College (ENS) Yaounde has officially opened its doors to 325 newly integrated students for the 2025/2026 academic year. Classes for both the first and second cycles commenced on April 14, marking a significant milestone following the recent reinstatement of entrance examinations.

For many of these students, the excitement of admission is met with the reality of an accelerated schedule. Because the academic year is already underway, these recruits face a rigorous five-month « catch-up » period to ensure they are ready to progress to Level 2 by October.

Unlike private students, these government-integrated students have dedicated lecture halls. Their schedule is dynamic, with specific courses and rotating professors assigned on a weekly basis.

Department Spotlight

In the Department of English, Arts Education, National Languages and Cultures and Foreign Language, the first lesson of the year focused on « National Languages and Culture. »
This specific department welcomed a small, elite group of 10 students: 3 students transitioned from the private sector while 7 candidates were admitted via the general competitive entrance exam.

Etta Bertha Orock, a Level 4 student who successfully passed the entrance exam and transitioned from private to integrated status, shared her enthusiasm: « I am incredibly happy and ready to dive in. We have a lot of work ahead to cover the year’s syllabus in five months, but we are prepared for the challenge, » she said.

To ensure a smooth transition, the school administration and the Students’ Union organized a comprehensive welcome ceremony on April 13. Led by Students’ Union President Ngono Adelia, the « newbies » were briefed on school rules, regulations, and functioning systems. They also received information on the official dress code and on campus navigation and student support resources.

The Return of the ENS Exams

The resumption of these classes follows a period of suspension that began in 2023 due to budgetary constraints. The revival was spearheaded by President Paul Biya during his inaugural speech on November 6, 2025, following his swearing-in for an eighth term.
