Rev. Liombe Inducted as Lead Pastor of EBC

The Etoug-Ebe Baptist Church (EBC) in Yaoundé entered a new spiritual chapter on Sunday, April 26, with the official induction of Rev. Timothy Liombe. The ceremony, filled with vibrant worship and symbolic tradition, served as a call to modernizing ministry while staying rooted in faith.

Rev. Dr. Nditemeh Charlemagne, former Executive President of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC), delivered a powerful induction sermon titled, « God is Always Doing a New Thing » based on Luke 5:33-39.
Dr. Nditemeh challenged Rev. Liombe to reject stagnant ministry and the comfort zones of old traditions.

Using the biblical metaphor of wine and wineskins, he outlined two distinct paths for the new leadership: the Old Wine, which represents rigid legalism, the Pharisee mindset, and the temptation to compromise truth for personal gain; and the New Wine, which represents Grace, the movement of the Holy Spirit, and innovative methods tailored to the current generation.

« Jesus didn’t come to patch the old system, » Dr. Nditemeh declared. « Let us allow Grace to triumph over legalism and traditions. »

Beyond the spiritual charge, Dr. Nditemeh provided a practical mandate for the new pastor. Rev. Liombe was urged to study the specific socioeconomic and spiritual landscape of Yaoundé. The preacher emphasized that effective ministry in a modern urban setting requires understanding the unique needs of the city’s diverse population through careful contextualization.

The induction was officiated by Rev. Jumbuin Enoch, Pastor of the Yaoundé Field Council of Churches. Rev. Liombe was presented with the essential tools of leadership, including the Holy Bible as the final authority, the 2023 Church Constitution, and the CBC Handbook and Internal Regulations.

Rev. Liombe, alongside his wife, publicly affirmed his allegiance to the CBC’s core values. He pledged to uphold the New Testament as the final arbiter in matters of faith and to lead the congregation according to the constitutional bylaws of the Convention.
