Students Struggle with Power Cuts Amidst Academic Demands

In the Bonas neighborhood of Yaounde ,students are struggling with persistent power cuts. Nkameni Elie, a university student, describes it as a daily struggle.
« The power goes off often, sometimes for a week. I can’t charge my laptop or study properly, » said Elie.
He added that there was a time they stayed for a month without light in his Cité.
Emmanuel, a student from the University of Yaoundé 1, faces the same problem. « I missed an important assignment last week when the power went off suddenly. I had to redo it all, » said Emmanuel
He said sometimes he stays late in school to study before heading home.
To cope, some students study using candlelight and trekking to friends’ houses with power banks. « Coming home late at night in this zone is dangerous because one can be harassed » said Emmanuel
Many blame the frequent power cuts on aging infrastructure and negligence.
« They’re not doing enough for us, » said Nguema, a parent and resident. « Our children are suffering because of this. »
Despite the challenges, these students are adapting, driven by a common goal to succeed at the end of the academic year.
